What is a prosthetic tooth?

The artificial organs that replace a missing organ or a part in the living body and enable this part to perform its physical function are called prostheses. Prosthetic teeth are teeth that are provided to perform the same function as healthy teeth, functionally and aesthetically, by making new teeth in accordance with their exact dimensions instead of missing teeth caused by different reasons in the mouth, supporting these teeth by the soft and hard tissues in the mouth.

Why is a prosthetic tooth made and how is its treatment applied?

Prosthetic teeth, better known as dentures, are made with different types of resin or porcelain raw materials, and thanks to these products, it is possible to use prostheses reliably for a very long time.

The prosthetic tooth is manufactured using the above-mentioned raw materials in 3D in accordance with the sample samples taken in certain molds according to the patient’s mouth dimensions. Prostheses, which are produced using very strong and durable materials, are one of the most frequently used treatment methods today, as they provide a great advantage to people in terms of aesthetics and also provide people with a better chewing opportunity.

What are the types of prosthetic teeth?

Dentures are prepared depending on the number of missing teeth in the mouth, based on the mouth and jaw structures of the patients. These prostheses are produced sometimes as mobile and sometimes as fixed.

Fixed prostheses are called crowns and bridges and are bonded prostheses. In addition, removable prostheses are called as total, partial and precision attachment.

Fixed prostheses;

  • Crown: It is the process of reducing the existing teeth in tooth fractures and tooth wear caused by caries or impact.
  • Bridge: It is the filling of the empty tooth by reducing the adjacent teeth next to the missing tooth area in one or more missing teeth, and taking support from the veneers coming to the reduced teeth.

Removable prostheses supported by a structure called palate;

  • Total Dentures: These are the prostheses made for people who are in advanced ages and have no teeth in the mouth.
  • Partial Denture: The word partial means part, and partial denture is a treatment applied in partially edentulous mouths. Partial dentures, which are used together with structures called hooks on the teeth, are formed by the composition of acrylic and metals.

Sensitive Retained Prostheses: In this type of prosthesis developed for people with sensitive teeth and tongue, unlike partial dentures, they are metal-supported prostheses manufactured without a metal retainer. It is applied in partially edentulous mouths.
